Acne and Acne Scars

Acne and Acne Scars

Living with acne can be painful, embarrassing, and even debilitating, with detrimental effects on a person’s confidence and self-esteem. As one of the most common skin issues among people of all ages, it’s easy to lose hope over something that affects you every day of your life, and the idea of someday having clear, blemish-free skin can seem too good to be true.

Luckily, various methods work extremely well in the fight against acne breakouts, that can safely and effectively fade, reduce, and eliminate light, moderate, and extreme cases of pimples. Getting great skin is entirely possible for many people and can be a saving grace for those feeling helpless and hopeless about the condition of their skin.

It’s important to note that successfully getting rid of acne takes time, patience and dedication. Especially for those with moderate to severe cases of acne, lesions won’t disappear overnight. Rather, treating acne will take at least a few weeks, if not months, of daily care and consistency to begin seeing potentially life-changing results.

In all, acne treatments are simple, effective, and well worth the wait. If you start now, you’re likely to have flawless skin in just a few months, leaving your acne-induced fears, worries, and insecurities behind you.

Our team of skilled physicians and professional skin care consultants will design a treatment plan ranging from your day-to-day needs, topical and oral medication and cosmetic procedures to address your individual needs.

How to Treat – Alone or in Combination

The state-of-the-art Morpheus 8™ is the first and only full-body subdermal adipose remodeling device, to target the deepest layers of the skin using radiofrequency technology. Radiofrequency technology is the gold standard for skin tightening and combined with this resurfacing treatment, it can smooth the skin texture caused by aging, acne scars and stretch marks with very minimal downtime.

  • Procedure time: 15-60 minutes
  • Anesthesia: topical numbing cream and/or nerve block
  • Pain level: mild
  • Recovery time: few days
  • Results: visible within 1-4 weeks
  • Treatment effects: best seen with multiple treatments and maintenance over 6-12 months.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT) and skin needling, is a noninvasive procedure that stimulates new collagen production. Using microneedles, tiny punctures induce collagen and elastin production, resulting in more youthful appearing skin. The release of these properties aid in repairing the texture and resiliency of the skin. Microneedling addresses minor skin concerns such as skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks, and skin discolorations.

  • Procedure time: 30 minutes
  • Anesthesia: topical numbing cream
  • Pain level: Mild
  • Recovery time: 1 day
  • Results: 7-10 days
  • Treatment effects: best seen with multiple treatments and maintenance over 3-6 months.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been shown to have numerous growth factors that enhance the body's own response in collagen production. PRP therapy involves collecting a patient's own blood and spinning it down into a concentrate of plasma that has a high platelet concentration. This is then injected back into the candidate's skin. Given that the material that is injected into skin is obtained from the patient, the risk of reaction is close to none.

  • Procedure time: 45-60 minutes
  • Anesthesia: topical numbing cream
  • Pain level: none to mild
  • Recovery time: less than 1 day
  • Results: within 3-4 weeks
  • Treatment effects: best seen with multiple treatments and maintenance over 6-9 months.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing technique to improve the appearance of the skin. A solution is applied to the skin which causes it to exfoliate and "peel off". There are many chemical peels available that range from superficial to deep. The choice depends on the desired depth of penetration, treatment effect, and recovery time. Typically, the deeper the peel, the greater the results, but they are also associated with greater recovery period and adverse effects.

  • Procedure time: 15 minutes
  • Anesthesia: not required
  • Pain level: none
  • Recovery time: none
  • Results: within 3-4 days
  • Treatment effects: best seen with multiple treatments and maintenance over 3-6 months.

Dermal Fillers with or without Subcision

Subcision is a procedure used to treat acne scarring, specifically depressed acne scars. Depressed acne scars are caused when fibrotic strands pull the skin downwards, creating the superficial indentations. During treatment a small blunt cannula is used to cut these fibrotic strands thereby releasing the tension of the scar, allowing the skin to rise. Your physician may suggest use of dermal fillers in some cases to help support the superficial layer of the skin while your body is trying to accumulate some collagen in those areas.

  • Procedure time: 30-45 minutes
  • Anesthesia: Local injectable numbing agents at injection site
  • Pain level: mild to moderate
  • Recovery time: less than a day
  • Results: usually visible immediately
  • Treatment effects: best seen with multiple treatments and maintenance over 6-9 months.
