Things To Do in North Vancouver in 2022

It’s no secret that North Vancouver is a haven for nature lovers. Until quite recently, the North Shore was often thought of as Downtown Vancouver’s adventurous but sleepy older sister. That all changed a few short years ago with the development of the Shipyards District, bringing a renewed sense of excitement and urban exploration to the area.

All the things to do in Downtown Vancouver are so well documented… yet most seem to miss all  the exciting things to do in North Vancouver. A variety of nature, shopping and cultural activities await just one short Seabus ride away.

If you haven’t spent much time exploring North Van, we hope you take this as an official invitation.

Skating at the Shipyards

At the centre of the Shipyards District is a big open space that is converted into an ice skating rink in the winter, and a roller skating rink on select summer weekend evenings.

It’s a great way to spend time outdoors while taking in a view of Downtown Vancouver.

All sorts of shops and restaurants surround the space. After you’re done skating, have a coffee with the best view of the city at Cafe Artigiano, enjoy delicious falafels at JamJar Canteen, browse local artisan items from The Nooks, have an ice cream from Welcome Parlour and select a jar of local honey from the Main Street Honey Shoppe.

Museum of North Vancouver

Take a trip down history’s archives at the newly opened Museum of North Vancouver. If you’re curious about what it was like in North Vancouver prior to urbanization - now is the chance to check it out! Make sure to visit the Industry and Enterprise Gallery which focuses on the evolution of North Vancouver’s economic development, from early settlement and port activities in Moodyville, homesteading and logging in Lynn Valley, to WWII shipbuilding and the diverse waterfront industries of today.

Visit the Polygon Gallery

If you’re by the Shipyards area, pop into the Polygon Gallery. On the ground floor you’ll find their extensive gift shop with an amazing selection of curated goods like jewelry, pottery, clothing, skincare and specialty items. Access to the gallery in the second floor is by donation.

Don’t miss a coffee and pastry from the Nemesis coffee shop!

Peer from the Pier: Vancouver Skyline Viewpoint

After browsing the market stalls at Lonsdale Quay, take a stroll to the end of the Pier for an incredible panoramic view of Downtown Vancouver.

It’s the perfect place to pause and reflect… with a side of people watching.

Bike along the Spirit Trail

Winding its way along the city’s scenic waterfront, the North Shore Spirit Trail is an incredible day trip - a fully accessible 35km greenway extending from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove.  This unique, waterfront-oriented trail provides pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and people with wheeled mobility aids safe and scenic access across the North Shore.

Visit the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver

The Inuit Gallery of Vancouver located at the Shipyards district is a stunning high-ceiling, light filled space that showcases an exceptional selection of Inuit, First Nations and Canadian art along with a collection of jewellery, sculpture and graphics.

Take in Nature at the Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

Spending time absorbing nature’s beauty is one of the best things we can do for our mental health, and we’re so lucky to be so close to so many forests, rivers and parks.

Our favourite place to take in nature is Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, where you can find endless trails, a suspension bridge (free of charge), mossy forest, tall old trees, and peace of mind.

Make sure to grab a coffee and a pastry from the End of the Line General Store before you set off on your hike.

Shop in Edgemont Village

Just beneath Grouse Mountain is a little shopping district called Edgemont Village. It’s a quaint and charming little community filled with a huge variety of independently owned small businesses.

If you love food, coffee art, home decor, or beauty - you’re bound to find something you’ll love at Edgemont Village.
